Miserable Monday

Loyal Readers, I am in trouble. Do you see how Veikko is sneaking around, trying to keep a low profile? Well, he's become a little bit of a scaredy cat. He spent one day last week Under The Bed.
Why ? Well some kitty has been chasing him. And playing tic tac toe on his skin with claw marks for x's and little biteys for o's.  Twice recently ystävämme eläinlääkäri has jabbed him with antibiotics due to his feeble immune system being unable to respond to teeny tiny injuries. Caused by whom ? Well, apparently me. Now I am emphatically innocent until proven guilty. Has Äiti checked the DNA in the scratches ? Nope. Has she taken a cast of the dental imprints to compare to mine ? Nope. Has she seen me commit these crimes ? Nope again. But I am getting the blame as Veikko slinks away from me, and admittedly I have been spotted leaping on him, claws out, when he has been sleeping. It's so easy!
Now apparently I may be doing this because I'm not well. For a long time I have had a few, erm, issues with my temper. To say I have been 'unpredictable', 'brattish', 'volatile' or 'psychotic' is somewhat harsh but I do admit I have a short fuse. Well, those felociraptors just look at me and irritate me! But also I have not responded well to the medication to help me eat more; I am consuming more food but not putting on any weight. I also grind my teeth a lot. Furballs are suspected but not ejected so it appears I am about to be violated in a most unwelcome manner: tomorrow I go to ystävämme eläinlääkäri to have a biopsy. I am not impressed and think this is a somewhat harsh consequence for making Veikko squeal a lot. Chronic gastritis is suspected and we hope that we'll get some answers from the surgery as I have to reluctantly admit I am not a well kitty. Being King Kitty Cat of Finland (N) I do not like this as a monarch needs to be strong and healthy - and apparently not beating up his perhe!

King Punapippuri! Such news may rock the core of your kingdom, but your loyal subjects are sending you purrs and hugs (even tho' you don't like them!). We wait with baited breath for updates on your condition.

We are sending you our Best Fishes that your surgery goes well tomorrow and that you (and Äiti) get some answers as to what's going on in your guts.

Or spleen. So you won't have to vent it so much.

Hope the surgery goes well.

I'm sending purrs to you, Puna - I hope the vet comes up with a remedy that helps you feel better, and behave better too. I'm also sending purrs to Veikko, because he is apparently getting the worst of it.

I hope your biopsy goes well and they can get to the bottom of what is causing your problems. Talking of bottoms, I hope you don't get your biopsy the same way they performed mine when they went in through my left buttock! Sending love to you, and sympathy for poor battered Veikko.

Our prayers are with you, little one. Let's hope the doctors can find a way to put things right.

P.S We don't know all your symptoms but could you be suffering from Cushings disease or Addison's disease ? They're less common in cats and vets don't always think of them first.

Äiti here - thank you for this suggestion Kari - we will certainly mention it to ystävämme eläinlääkäri. And I will also ask for a battery if allergy tests to see if that could be helpful. All blood tests have come back normal, as well as X-rays. His main symptom is aggression but I think this is caused by pain from his stomach. Punapippuri has always ground his teeth, and had a peeing problem which has got worse over time to the point he even marks his territory on me! He eats but does not put on weight, and is prone to bad fur balls despite brushing. I really hope some cause can be discovered.

Teeth grinding can be seen In cats with gastric ulcers so you might be on the right track. If he's refluxing as well and his esophagus is burnt from gastric acid that could be something too. One of the relief vets at an old practice always used to say " let's 'em out of pain first ( medicate them), then search for the cause". Hopefully your vet can give him something to relieve his pain whilst waiting for test results.

We're sending lots of purrs your way for an answer to your health issues. Veikko is probably hoping they have a treatment for you, too!

OH King Kitty Cat! So sorry to hear you are not feeling well (though you should indeed not be taking it out on the poor nekkeds!) Let us know how your appointment goes! Amarula has suggested that she is more than willing to send you Frodo and Zulu to use to work out your aggression on!

We wonder if ya may being sufferrin from CATNESS ("Chasing A Timid NEkkid Slinking Sibling"). Stopping that would take some real willpower. Sadly, we cats are not famous for that.
