Snowy Independence Sunday

Today perheeni proudly celebrate Finnish Independence Day, or Itsenäisyyspäivä as it is called. Just 98 years ago the our mighty land declared itself to not be part of the Russian republic. We celebrate this by lighting two candles in our window, a tradition of many years that lets any passing loyal soldiers, weary in their wanderings, know that they will find warmth and shelter within.
Today we would extend that to welcome any refugees who have left the traumas of their homeland to try to find a life free of war and persecution.

How about wandering neighborhood pups who need shelter???

Happy Independence Day! Does everyone get drunk and act stoopy like lots of people do here?

Oh, we like the extended version of your candles! We'll also have two candles tonight, and we'll copycat you. ;)

P.S. This is our first Independence Day with Mom. Do these foreigners know that we Finncats are supposed to get treats instead of regular food today??

Happy Finnish Independence Day! I had no idea that Finland separated from Russia less than 100 year ago.

Happy Independence Day! We hope the welcome of shelter and warmth extends to homeless kitties as well.

Happy Independence Day! Like Summer, we didn't realise that it was so comparatively recently that Finland gained their independence from Russia.
