Saturday Surgery Update with a Dose of Senility

With all the festivities, I have not posted about Mesi's progress after her operation. Now I have to confess that I only vaguely remember when the Royal Jewels were removed, and our procedure is a bit different to that of girlcats - they have my sympathy there. When I did have surgery on my naughty kneecap it was horrible. So I was very king to Mesi when she came home, and even washed her a little. She has received many cuddles from us, and from Äiti.
But of course she can still show the Bottom of Disrespect - who can blame her ?
Now  Mesi's tummy is healing nicely. No Cone of Shame, and no stitiched - she got glued up! Yes, glued. Isn't medicine  (and ystävämme eläinlääkäri) amazing ? She has no nasty string to tug.
She's still not running around as much as she was, but it won't be long.
Now Äiti has, on the whole had a good  Christmas. Except for three incidents which have made us chuckle. She did, on Christmas Eve dash outside to see the revontulet. In the process of leaving the house she goes through a 'lobby' (eteinen) with two doors, which means we do not escape. Sampo is in the habit of dashing through one door and getting trapped in the forbidden eteinen - well, often there's a big bag of dry food so of course we are curious to be there! Anyway, she was getting dressed to go outside when Sampo and Jura dashed in, so she quickly got them back into the house and then herself dashed out the front door - forgetting her keys. For which Sampo and Jura got the blame - unfairly! So, she was not very happy. The neighbour who has keys to all the houses was not home, so she asked another for help (in her awful Finnish), had to go online to find a phone number, borrow a phone and call her friend with a spare key which was then bought by taxi. Luckily it only took about 20 minutes - just as well as it was -23°C outside.
So to the second incident- not a lost key but a missing mobile phone. She found it - in the pocket of the jeans she removed from the washing machine. It is now very clean, and dead. That was Christmas Day.
And yesterday she lost her bank card and had to scrabble under the seat of the car for change to pay for a coffee. Luckily the card was at home. She says troubles come in threes, so that's it. Or is it .....?!
Anyway, she was mad at herself for all of this and we think maybe you can see this in her insane eyes in this 'selfie'.  She is insane - this was taken when she went running yesterday (-18°C): and yes, the white stuff in her eyelashes and eyebrows is ice, and she does look more like a bank robber than a jogger.
This is a photo she took later at midday.
Yes folks, that really is as high as the sun gets right now. No chance of sun puddles until about March.....

Nothing like the honesty of the surgery site, MOL! But our purrs also for the "uncomfortablessness"...

Been there.

Being locked out in the cold must have been awful. There's always that moment of panic, even if there are extra keys about.
WE hope Aiti's troubles are over. Poo!
We're sure Princess Buttercup will back on top of the world in no time!

Happy Caturday!

I'm glad to hear Mesi is healing up well! I would have liked not to wear that e-collar!

That glue stuff sounds just the thing, Mesi! Stitches are definitely annoying!

We would advise Äiti to stash a key somewhere outside the house for just such an "incident"!

You'll want to drop the phone in a jar of rice to dry up. Maybe it'll recover.
If you have any extra keys left, you might want to give a set to another neighbor so that they are not 20 minutes away..

Wait, you mean to tell us no one offered to let Aiti wait inside, out of the cold, until the spare key arrived?
Goodness, a lack of basic humanity here!
Must be the season for mums to go a bit soft. Ours left her purse in a department store and didn't realise it until several hours later 'cause she doesn't always carry a purse. Then she left her new phone on a table in a restraunt on Christmas morning and, again, didn't recall. We figure by the years end she'll leave her fool head somewhere!
Mesi needs one of Aiti's fabulous portraits. That face and those eyes are breathing! Glad to know she's recovering well.

My goodness, excitement never seems to stop at your house. Sorry about the key problem. That sounds rather scary. Our house has one door that locks and unlocks with a combination and that is a help because humans can be so dumb sometimes.

That is a really tidy scar, Mesi. Hooray for glue!

Mom has heard of various ways to dry out a cellphone, but never had to do it. Maybe an internet search can give some ideas? One was about immersing the phone in dry rice.

Oh no! Not a good time of year for Aiti to lock herself outdoors. Frozen eyelashes! Much too cold to go outside.
I am glad Mesi is doing well.

Glue is a good idea, I hope you heal soon. Putting the phone in uncooked rice is supposed to work too.

Oh NO! Maybe mommy will wash HER phone so she can get a new one (hee). How can you BREATHE out in that cold air? Our mom starts wheezing! :( She's banished inside our home gym until it gets over 15˚C again!)
