Security Sunday

Above the shelf is a new DIY project of Äiti's: it is a magnetic cat flap. This is a security device, and I have realise dit is to protect my very own naughty kneecap (Äiti: not quite). You see, Risto Puoli-häntä will wear a collar with a magnet on and he will be able to access this secure area. This keeps him away from me (well, actually it keeps him safe from you).  He will unfortunately be able to enjoy the upstairs picture gallery and i will not. Pöh. Luckily there are no portraits of me thee, so I can bear this loss.
On the other side, Roosa is snuggling on the shelf. Äiti is trying to work out how to get a collar on her so she can also have access to the 'secure zone' and the upstairs balcony.
Risto made no fuss about his collar.
Oh no, the Half-tail just loved all the attention.
Roosa looked on.
There you can see Risto come when his name was called. And you can see the famous 'puoli-häntä'.
But he needs lessons in flap usage. He had a look through, but didn't step across the threshold. To open it from his side he has to use the magnet on his collar, but it is not needed in the other direction to go back to the shelves on the landing.
Hang on, that means he can come back out whenever he wants. Hmmm, I think Äiti needs to rethink this security device as it seems to be protecting him and not me.

Leave it to a physicist to arrive at such an elegant solution! You can call the safe area Schroedinger's Room.

Your mum has taken on a pretty neat project. We hope it works out.

This is entirely too complex an arrangement for me--a regular Rube Goldberg creation that only a science teacher could create.

"Any birdies?" asks the Kitty who has apparently not read Nellie's half the story yet!

"Any birdies" indeed! Pöh!

Looks cool! My human has considered something like this contraption to protect my food bowl from Binga's grubby paws.

We hope it will be possible to put a collar on Roosa very soon, and that catflap usage will be a snap!

I hope the cat flap is successful to give Rista and Roosa a safe haven. Flynn would never use the cat flap. He hates anything touching his nose. He only has to walk into a cobweb and he backs away hissing. I took the flap off so he can go in and out to the garden and put the sliding door in place at night. Eric never had any such problems. He used to just barge through as if there was nothing there.
