Wave function Wednesday

Now, my love of boxes is well known. Äiti's love of physics is well known.  But boxes, cats, physics and Äiti have to be carefully combined, and this is done very strictly on OUR terms. Not Äiti's . She is a great fan of the work of a certain Erwin Schrödinger who did something unimaginably cruel to a cat in order to point out a paradox in quantum mechanics. He said that when you look in a sealed box  containing a kitty and some randomly operated poison, you collapsed a wave function which described the  poor feline's life and either killed it or let it live. Now I totally agree that whatever happens is all the fault of a human. I do not agree that we magnificent creatures can simply be described as wave functions. And I do not even like the idea that this is a 'thought experiment' and not something that happens in real life. And just to make sure, all boxes in this house are kept open.  However I was less trusting when this box arrived.
Äiti  had bought it home from work as it 'looked like a good box'. it also has a nasty chemical warning sign on it. I was very cautious.
I allowed Jaava-ninja to get closer.
And then Mirsku was sent to investigate inside.
Oh yes, his wave function was far too big to fit inside the box. We think he will be safe!

My human tells me differently, but I was always under the impression that Schrödinger was a made-up character, like the Bogeyman for humans, meant to scare us kitties for no good reason!

The Human has heard the Schrödinger paradox (sort of) explained though she didn't understand it very well--but she didn't know he had actually DONE the poison/radioactivity deal to a REAL cat. ::shudder:: The Google Doodle was about him yesterday....it must be his birfday? Well! *I* will not be singing to HIM! Besides, I always knew there was a good reason to be 'spishus of boxes.

Äiti's note: Schrödinger didn't actually do this experiment!

Good idea to send the Burmese into the box first. MOL!

We don't like this story about the kitteh fiend at all. Pfffft!

Pee Ess - Have a wonderful Wednesday, furriends. ((HUGS))

Ummmmm.. you lost us at about line 3, but we're glad the box was safe!

You know, this guy Schrödinger, he's either alive or dead in his current box. Whahaa!

Chemical signs or not, that's an awesome box! Just don't let anyone close you in it maybe?

Should we invoke Heisenberg here, Faraday & Maxwell wonder?
