Tortoise Thursday

We thank you most kindly for all your words of comfort and support, and the love which so many loyal readers had for Harris.  Äiti is very touched by the comments and emails she received. We are especially moved by the care and concern for Lewis-veli, Harris' litter brother. We are keeping a very close eye on him and Äiti is giving him extra treats. Lewis is also very shy, and that is okay by us all, but it makes it hard to really see how he is doing. We'll all look after each other though.
Harris also had another best buddy, Tessie-kilpikonna. This picture was taken last year. Harris would lie next to her for hours, and ever since they met, they have been close.
Now Äiti has been very worried about Tessie. She is quite an old lady - she has been in Äiti's family for over 50 years (which is longer than Äiti) and although tortoises live for a very long time, she is 'senior' for this breed. So when she slept solidly for 5 months this winter, Äiti was concerned.her sleeping palce has been under the bookshelves in the corner where Harris' favourite cat bed was. This morning Tessie woke up and went for a walk. Now Äiti was quite spooked by this, but she realised that actually Tessie had probably been keeping Harris company. Now we will keep an eye on her, so that she is okay.
And how did Äiti know tessie had woken up ? Well young Sampo was acting very nervously. He didn't know what to think of Tessie-kilpikonna. He fluffed his tail and moved away. And then got brave enough for a paw poke.
He followed her a bit.
This moving rock is really very strange!
And then this happened: there is something a bit wrong with this arrangement !

Tessie is FIFTY??? OMC! I had no idea! How dare that little whippersnapper "paw pat" her! I'll bet she can snap if she wants to, though, eh?

Ahh, we had been wondering about Tessie! Good to see her and Sampo are getting on well. (even if he eats her food) Happy Thursday, furriends! XOXO

Wow, Tessie is the oldest member of your family - including your human! That is pretty amazing.

Salad Sampo! This clearly is a very versatile prince!

We wish Tessie many more years of love in your midst, and we know that you will make Lewis feel even more loved now that his brother is no longer there.

Hahaha! This is so similar to Tutu and our tortoise sister Dino (who is 15 years). Mommy has to block Dino's enclosure during her dinner time or Tutu will eat all her veggies!

Tessie could probably sense Harris' presence and felt secure. And Harris found Tessie a non threatening constant for him. We don't find it strange at all that she woke up. Maybe she sensed he was unwell. Or woke up when she sensed he wasn't there. Beans know so little about interspecies communication.
Our prayers are with you and dear Lewis. And now Tessie. Love to all of the family.

I think maybe Kari hit the nail on the head with her thoughts. I love the reversal of foods picture. Hugs GJ x

Maybe Sampo will be Tessie's new friend?
Amazing how many people and animals have been affected by Harris' death. A special cat ,Harris was.
