Sad News

With very heavy, sad hearts we have to say our Harris-veli has had to be helped to the Rainbow Bridge.    This will be a shock to our loyal readers. As you may know, Harris was very shy and no one could touch him (except Carolyn-täti in England). Äiti had noticed at the weekend that he was very thin, and was ravenously hungry. He'd also been sick a couple of times. Anyway, ystävämme eläinlääkäri discovered a huge tumour and yesterday morning it was clear that Harris was not able to lie comfortably and was beginning to be in pain. This was a very hard decision and many tears have been shed, but Äiti says responsible cat care includes all the horrible stuff too - the kindest thing was to ensure he would not suffer more.
Harris was a Britcat, a part of Äiti's former life when she volunteered at a cat rescue centre in Bristol. He and brother Lewis were very shy, but Äiti was delighted to rehome them. They then bonded with Stran who arrived a few weeks later. Harris adored Stran, and seeing them together made Äiti realise Harris felt safe and loved. We all loved Harris - he was gentle and rubbed our heads with him as often as he could.  Äiti was so delighted that he began eating meat from her hand in the last few months, and she wants to celebrate his life - his wonderfully smart tuxie furs, and long clickety claws which always could be heard everywhere on the wooden floors, and his beautiful yellowy brown eyes, brighter than the sun and deeper than ocean.
Be happy that he shared our lives.

May he rest in peace and happily hop around on the other side, without pain. A sad and heavy thing to need to be done, for the carer but a relief for a sick kitty. Purrs and a hug!

Harris, despite your shyness you brought much joy to those around you, and we know you will be greatly missed. We can imagine that your entire family is in shock and filled with sadness. We suspect, however, that you waited until a new little Prince was there to bring smiles to them before you made it clear that you had to leave. The circle of life is fulfilled thanks to your wisdom.

Purrs, Gentle Woofs, Soft Neighs and Big Hugs,

I'm so sorry about gentle Harris's loss. But you are right, it is better to think of the gift his presence was. The shy kitties are always a little bit more special because their trust must be so patiently earned.

Oh, Aiti, i am so sorry about Harris, and the hard decision you had to make. I am thinking about Lewis. It will be hard for this shy little boy not to see his brother around any more. And Stran has lost his best friend. Every time you wrote about Harris or Lewis, your words were full of love and care. You gave a loving, forever home to those poor boys and we thank you for that.
Dimitria.

I'm so sorry. It sounds like Harris had a most wonderful latter part of his life, a real cat's life that any cat would dream of. That is the best thing anyone could have done for him, along with the sad decision to stop him suffering. Purrs and hugs!

This is really sad news :-( Our condolences. It's always a hard time to make these decisions, but the quality of cat's life is the main thing. If it would be more like suffering, then we humans know what to do.

We send warm thoughts for you and your cats, Äiti.

Our special candle has been lit for Harris and we mourn the crushing loss of this sweet boy. Hasn't he been through enough? I am angered and ask "why" him and am left with only the residual anger and overwhelming sadness when no answer to "why" can be found.
This poem came to mind.

We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even
more temporal than our own,
live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached.
Unable to accept it's awful gaps,
we still would live no other way.
We cherish memory as the only certain immortality,
never fully understanding the necessary plan.

I do believe his life force goes on, only his mortal remains were left behind. He is part of the energy of the universe and, therefore with us now and always.
Our love is with you during this terrible time and always.
God bless you and keep you, darling Harris.
