Tuomo-tiikeri

We are very sad to report that our Tuomo died this morning. I hand over to Äiti, who always called him Tuomo-tiikeri. We all have very sad hearts.

I found Tuomo  morning. I had known he had been slowing down, but nothing serious. He just hadn't gone outside for a while - like most of the others when the temperature is this cold! But he had been playing, and eating very well. His thyroid medicine had been working and his mood was good.
On Christmas Day he stretched out on the new sheepskin, which he commandeered from the ninjas, and the last photo I took of him - well, it was beautiful. I haven't had the will to download it yet.
He ate his medicine as usual last night (on a spoon of creme fraiche) and jumped on my arm in the bed for a belly tickle. When I fed the horde at 6am I didn't see him, but that was not so unusual. I wish now I had gone looking. I came down a couple of hours later and he'd gone. I heard nothing - I sleep badly so I believe would have woken up if it had taken a long time. I really hope he had not been suffering for long. It was very likely heart failure. The other cats left me alone - they didn't wake me. They have been quiet and Stran, of course, has been very attentive to me.

Tuomo was in Raahe animal home for a year. Overlooked and antisocial. Before that, a farmer called Tuomo had spent a long time taming him up so he could be bought in and then rehomed. I want to thank that man. When I visited Raahe (May 1st 2009), Tuomo came to the cage wire to say hello and then of course he came to live with us. I didn't know he had a huge temper and was quite antagonistic to the other cats but in time we all settled and he became my cantakerous old man, my firey tiger who wanted me for himself. He slept by me most nights, waking me for tummy tickles. The ninjas got used to him playing with them by sitting on them and gently biting them - the cat equivalent of a tummy snorgle. He found his social playful side with them and I am very glad they made him young.
I have no idea how old he was - maybe 15.  He probably died of heart failure. I am incredibly sad, but also happy and privileged to have had Tuomo, my Raahe farm boy, for the twilight of his life.

Rest in peace, old tiger.

Tuomo's unexpected passing is heartbreaking for all of us. We offer our sincere condolences at this painful time when nothing can help the hurt you are feeling. We can find comfort knowing he enjoyed his life with you until the end, that he crossed the bridge on his own terms, in his own home and in a place of his own choosing. Only his mortal remains are present, his vibrant spirit is free in the universe,
dancing in the revontulet with Rilli, Monty Cat and all those who have gone before. Our special candle is already lit in his honour.
Grieve not,
nor speak of me with tears
but laugh and talk of me
as if I were beside you...
I loved you so...........
'twas Heaven here with you.
I.P. Richardson

All of our love, always.

We are so sad to read this. The "hard" kitties are always the ones most cherished, Mommy thinks, their personalities are so strong. We'll be thinking of you and sending warm purrs your way...we don't know if the Finns still believe in Valhalla but we think Tuomo is worthy to pull Freya's chariot.
Blessing on your Äiti for seeing the love in Tuomo's soul.

Oh, my furiends, we are weeping with you, both for your loss and for the loving home you gave him in his last years. What joy he must have had in being warm and loved and cared for, even if he was a bit of a cranky boy (*I* can understand that). We are so glad that he had a good evening with you, feeling well and snuggly, and we are certain he slipped away to the Bridge gently and quietly, leaving his perhe to comfort one another. We sent you much purring and love ::bows head in respect for Tuomo's long and well-lived life::

I am truly sorry that your baby flew to the Bridge. He must not have suffered and I am so appreciative of that. I know the sorrow and pain of losing a furred baby in the family. You love them so deeply and they fly away and leave us. One day, we really will all meet again. I am convinced of it.
