Warrior Wednesday

On Monday evening there was much excitement on the catio. And we kept it quiet until Jura-ninja triumphantly ran inside carrying the hard won trophy. Äiti was most shocked. She kept looking at it, thinking 'it can't be', 'no surely not' .....  We were delighted. We are so proud of ourselves. However, you need to warn those sensitive humans that they might get upset at the photos. But we mighty hunters have no such sentiment, and we were just having a great time and doing what we do naturally. Our photos get progressively more revealing so if your human is all scaredy, tell them to go have a cuppa while you drool.
Mirsku-veli has the first picture. Have you guessed what it is (was) yet ?
And here he stands proud over the trophy.
Stran-veli had a sniff but wasn't so interested.
I was very keen on it, but didn't want the publicity of the photos.
Jura-ninja was beside himself with joy. He bought it inside and threw it around everywhere.
He carried it around for ages.
Yes, loyal readers, we got a squirrel! Cheeky orava got  what he deserved. We get these visiting, and Äiti loves them as apparently the red ones are really cute and you don't get them in England much! Well, we don't get them on the catio either now! I wanted Äiti to display the photo of what remained of the rest of him, but she says it's not nice so I shall have to describe it. Basically, after the swift killing (done way from human eyes) we had the feasting (also done away from human eyes). We left behind his stomach and large intestine but the rest was gone. Äiti couldn't believe how we had nommed the lot.  And the stomach was just sat in the lawn like a tiny balloon. It was nice and fat so our squirrel had been well-fed.  There was maybe a tiny bit of fur on the remains of one paw but that was all that was left. Oh yes, ystävämme eläinlääkäri would have been proud of our surgical skills.  And the fluffy tail could not be eaten; that was left to play with. Well, we have to have something to nail to the wall.
Of course it is cats' honour that we cannot admit to who did what but those of us outside at the time were a great team: myself (of course), Jaava and Jura, Pekka, Mirsku, Ruska and Lewis. What warriors!

Oh BRAVO Mighty Finnish Warrior Hunters! King Spitty the Kitty, Prince of Kiimamaa, bows to your excellent stalking and killing skills. We sing odes to your slaying of the Mighty and Fearful,uh, squirrel.

So, it took the whole team of ya to bring him down, eh? What was it--about six-on-one there, Dreaded Killers?

Oh, and don't worry--I'm sure you have nothing at all to fear from his 631 close personal friends, who are even now marching their way toward the Fabled and Legendary House of Punapippuri (or as I like to say, Little Red Pepper boy.....)

Do you think there might be a coup de etat at Punapippuri Estate? Are the vishus squirrel (as we type) planning their attack? We are united with you brofurs (and sisfurs)! You may count on us to help protect your homeland!

Hyvä pojat! On siis mahdollista saada ne &%#oravat kiinni! Olin jo antaa periksi, kun ovat niin sukkelia. Lintulauta tulee taas kohta esille ja orava käy siinä...*miettii miten saisi sen kiinni*

Wow, that is awesome! The cat before me used to catch (and eat) squirrels all the time. Once, she brought my human a neatly severed head, just to show off!

Well that last red-eyed shot does say it all. However... our #1 agrees with your Äiti and we have been warned that if we ever emulate you, there will be no treats for an entire week. We do have red squirrels here and she too loves them. Sigh... humans...

Oh, my goodness! We're in awe of your hunting abilities! A real squirrel! We think you need to keep the tail and of course put it on display, definitely a trophy.

This reminds our mom of how the former neighbour's declawed cat would always catch birds and eat the heads, saving the bodies for later (which our human disposed of, since they were under her shrub by the front step). And how one morning, just as she was leaving for work, she opened the door and saw Niko nomming on a rodent on her welcome mat. He left the entrails for her too, very kind of him.

Alas, we can only dream of nomming real prey!

You are great hunters to get the squirrel and avoid those sharp teeth!

Johan oli saalis! Hyvä, että jäi todistusaineistoakin. Uhkarohkea orava ja niin siinä sitten kävi.

Yes, we were wondering the same thing as Terri:
