Fiendish Friday

A couple of weeks ago Äiti had a parcel. Aila-sisko and Jura-ninja were on box inspection duties. I have since destroyed the box as it was most excellent on the claws.
There was a box of little plastic balls and sticks which was whisked away from Jura faster than you could say 'molecular modelling kit'.
And there was a huge pile of books and dvds which Äiti nerdily arranged in a pile to form a pretty spectrum.
And she has been foolishly trying to read the books ever since. Jaava has been able to distract her though.
Now we have had to get together to try to work out our strategy as apparently this stuff will keep Äiti busy until next June. She has to work through the books and do various tasks and assignments.  Last year she went out to study but now she will be with us, 'working at home'. This fills us with delight as we propose maximum distraction as a good thing for us. Äiti has other ideas. She is home most afternoons now and sat at the kitchen table working, accompanied by us. It is quite amusing as we have set up a rota as to who goes to sit on her notes and when.  She is beginning to realise that she might have to bribe us to leave her in peace with an extra meal time. We usually have food at 6pm so start circling an hour or so before, but if she is home we can circle even earlier. Today she gave in and we got extra dry food. Result! We are hoping this will be a permanent fixture on our 'helping Äiti study schedule'. And any other suggestions are very welcome!

I think you should encourage her to take many breaks--for her mental health and well-being. Perhaps she'd even enjoy going out for a stroll? All the while, leaving her books and materials (i.e., those wonderful molecule-building parts) UNATTENDED. For hours.

What's with all those little plastic cat toys there that she went and hid? Is she waiting for Christmas to give them to you or something? I mean, those couldn't possibly be anything but playthings for you!

Our mom's laughing at Aiti's idea that she'll be able to study at home, quietly, with all of you. Suggestion? Going to a library. LOL.

I'd be interested in reading that book that has the work "mole" in it.
