Friday Feasting

We have declared a day of celebration. I would call a public holiday but this is spoiled by the fact Äiti has to go back to work today and is not around to serve all our needs and wishes - no matter, between us we can raid the treat cupboard without her. With52 paws, maybe there'll be a thumb somewhere.
But we have many reasons to celebrate. we are forging a 'special relationship' in the international sense with King Spitty of California and the Western Lands, after he nearly started a global conflict. Perhaps one day I can become the second Finn to win the Nobel Peace Prize! I do indeed have excellent diplomatic skills. (Yeah right, I think the ninjas might disagree - Äiti)
And now I am most delighted to announce Ruska will be Herra Tammikuu, Mr January, in the Marley Fund Cat 2013 calendar. This is a most excellent cause. Stran is Mr January 2012 and we are delighted to have a Ruska in his place next year.
Mirsku was a semi-finalist, which means he did not make the calendar, but he doesn't mind about that as he was a silver medallist in the balance beam event of the Cat Blogosphere Olympics.
Given that Äiti entered it as a joke - he was balanced very precariously, we are delighted.

And we have a gold medal in the counter surfing. Well, so did everyone who entered but I better not tell Jaava that.
We still may have medal hopes in the fierceful yawning and the smackdown too.

And finally we wish to report a mighty triumph within perheeni!  Those of you with squeamish humans who think our food can only come in sealed tins, send them away while you indulge with us. You may recall Lewis-veli's bitter disappointment when a mousie he was stalking got frightened away by our very own party pooper, Äiti. Well, it wasn't a mousie but a shrew, päästäinen.  These don't taste so good but they are great fun. So we caught one! And hid it!
And then Äiti did the cleaning. She lifted the mat, and discovered a very flat shrew. Here it is!
Please note, we bit its tail off. And of course, cats' code of honour we cannot tell who did it. And Äiti cannot work out when it happened - she knows some cat has been sitting on the mat nearly continuously for a week (we organised a guard rota) but is sure she would have noticed the smell if it had been there that long, hehehehe. We are all mighty proud. And when it disappeared there were many of us sniffing around in disappointment, hurrumphing that Äiti had given it a little watery burial down the pan.
But what a week, loyal readers. It is time to celebrate and feast. Please join us.

Lotsa cool stuff in the post, but mostly we wanna say that TBT is not the least bit squeamish about giving us wildlife treats. Like, we got baby sparrows from the bluebird nestbox once...

Rumblemum thinks there should be a 12 month Stran calendar.

We're busy drooling over that mousie!!

Concats to Ruska! Well done on catching the shrew. We tend to hide them under the fridge and mum knows to pull it out and look under it when there is a nasty smell in the kitchen. We eat the tasty mice though.

Congratulations to Mr. January! :-)

And on your Olympic medals!

Maybe shrew-catching could be an event the next time the games are on.
