Tearful Tuesday, but Happy Ones

We are overwhelmed by the comments and emails received, wishing us well and celebrating Rilli-ukko. Äiti has not stopped crying. But it has all gone as it should, and we know that life has to end. We so very much appreciate aslo ystävämme eläinlääkäri for her help, reducing the stress for our elder statesman. She said it was very important we all knew what had happened so Rilli stayed with us overnight. Ruska and Harris lay by him for many  hours, and we all were quiet and respectful. Äiti was amazed no one woke her for breakfast, even though we knew she wasn't deeply asleep.
And this morning, a glorious -17'C frosty Finnish winter's day when it feels so good to be alive, Äiti took Rilli to ystävämme elänlääkäri and there was the hugest solar halo she has seen for ages. And she could see the ice crystals sparkling in the rainbow in the forest. Here is a photo of the halo form the balcony when she got back.

All is most definitely well. This was a wonderful sight.

And here, and please no tears, is the last photo of Rilli. He had smelt some muikku, and was of course going to lift himself up to eat them.
Loyal readers, we will now be celebrating Rilli-ukko and you are most welcome to drop by. We appear, however, to have run out of little fishies!

No worries about the fishies - there will be time later for muikku - right now, I am in awe of the magical Finnish morning.

Right, we think that getting more little fishies should be the first priority.

Celebrating a life well lived is so very important. Rilli was fortunate both in his first loving owner and in his second large and wonderful family. How nice to have had a kind of wake for him too. Now he can dance on those lights with all our other friends at the Bridge.

The sky honouring the bright memory of a sweet animal and his life.
My old companion Ville also ate pikkumuikku until the very last day of his life in April last year. So, the genuine Finnish man-cats have similar tastes, until the end.

Our thoughts are with you.

When we're young, we seem to think that life somehow will get easier when we're adults. But the older we get, Karin, the more we understand that life is so bittersweet, joy walking hand-in-hand with sorrow. We face more losses on every level. Sometimes acceptance and peace are so elusive, but I think learning to let go, when it's time, no matter if it's of a companion or a job or a thing--anything we're attached to--is the best lesson we can learn in this life.

Universal Peace and Blessings to you all.

A celebration of a cat life well-lived and long, full of love, is a wonderful idea.
To Rilli, fly free and be healthy all over again. Big virtual hug for Aiti, and purrs and nosetappies for all the kitties.

We also think what a lovely morning you had there--and so perfect to celebrate his life.

"Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not here, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain.
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am the morning hush.
I am the graceful rush
of beautiful birds in circling flight.
I am the star shine of the night.
I am the flowers that bloom.
I am in a quiet room.
I am the birds that sing.
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there, I did not die."

Rilli will always be with you.

The solar halo was surely a sign from Rilli to let you know that all was good for him at the Bridge and he was watching over you.
