Saturday Sneezes

Jaava -ninja has caused us much worry but thankfully all is well. As I mentioned we've had a few hints of bacteria and viruses with a 'cold'. Some of us have had runny eyes for a day and there's been an occasional sneeze, but Äiti has been watching us carefully and judging whether we need to build our immunity or get whisked away in the Box of Doom. Anyway, up until Thursday evening all of us were doing fine and then we spotted Jaava-ninja was limping. Äiti was on the phone immediately to ystävämme eläinlääkäri and the Box of Doom was produced! We all stayed clear but Jaava-ninja was trapped. She yelled and yelled and we felt really sorry for her while we had our breakfast and she didn't. Äiti realised that she has never been alone so poor Jura-ninja was stuffed inside it too - he was having to go with his sister!
The Burmese butterballs spent the day at the vet's and apparently they had a fantastic time and were playing all the time. Äiti was very surprised as in the morning Jaava-ninja had great problems climbing on the bed as her back legs were weak. Anyway, after a röntgen and some nasty blood tests, it seems that she just has this cold. Apparently respiratory infections can lead to us kitties limping a bit. But thankfully Jaava has no problems and her röntgen was perfect.  We are greatly relieved.
However the ninjas did cause much damage at the vet's: they were out playing and nearly chewed through the fax machine cable and broke an empty urn. But being cute little kittens they were of course totally forgiven and spoilt with loads of yummy food. I hasten to add that they were being looked after in the staff social area there - as ystävämme eläinlääkäri knows us very well, we all get special quarters and care!
And now today Rilli-ukko has runny eyes so he has ointment for them. We hope this cold goes away very soon - but we are quite grateful for the extra food we are getting as Äiti takes pity on us.

What a relief that all that was wrong was a cold. Nevertheless, I am still purring for Jaava, and for the rest of you until the sniffles have all passed.

Oh Dear! That limpy bit sounds like Calici Virus... Do you get lots of L Lysine? It's supposed to help with those nasties.

Purring for everyone to be sniffle-free very soon.
The Chans (plus woofs from Tommy, neighs from Vidock and hugs from #1)

We were going to write L-Lysine too. People take it for cold sores and it works well for cats too, to lessen the symptoms and duration of kitty colds. Look for gel capsules that you can open up, to sprinkle the Lysine into canned food. It's an amino acid found in the body and you can't overdose a cat on it, though usually the dose given is 500 mg per day while the cat has a cold. Or you can give less, say 250 mg per day on an ongoing basis as a preventative supplement.

BTW, we're glad that urn was empty...!
