Well, there have been mixed fortunes here in sunny Finland (north). Our first misfortune was Äiti disappearing off for the whole day yesterday. She was visiting our cousin ilves (lynx) in a place called Ranua which has many animals. She says she went shopping in Ruotsi (Sweden)for things for us, and has bought me something special but I have not seen it yet so of course feel very unfairly treated.
Today however she has been at home and we have been sun bathing on the catio (most of the time). Mirsku-veli still thinks he can dig his way out but I think he will not be lucky.
I have been bravely hunting and caught a very chewy yhtäläissiipiset (damselfly) which gave me a bit of tummy ache. Silly Äiti didn't have her camera to hand as I ran round the house in triumph with it sticking out of my mouth.
However she was dashing round the house soon when Tuomo-veli darted into the kitchen from the balcony upstairs, obviously chasing something which then escaped into the living room. She managed to pull him away (after a bit of bloodshed and claws flying), and he had caught one of our main targets - the cheeky little talitiainen (great tit). What a result! Feathers everywhere. And then, my loyal readers, I learnt a sad and important lesson: Äiti doesn't like it if we catch birds. She was very upset. She held the biride (who was still alive) and put it safely in the garden. However it did not fly away and was badly injured so she had to do something she has never done before, and 'put it out of its misery'. She was really upset and I felt sad for her (but not for the snack we missed out on). She buried it by the blackcurrant bush, and moved away the food it had been eating on the balcony (which had allowed Tuomo-veli to pounce successfully). Now all food is hanging out of paws' reach and waway from pounce height - even thought Tuomo is trying to prove otherwise. We have our needs to hunt of course, and Äiti knows this but it is something she does not really like about us.

Oh we feel for you. We caught a bird the other day and it was too late by the time #1 found it and she was extremely unhappy. They are very strange that way....

We have gotten a few birds, too. Usually all Mommy finds are feathers. Lots and lots of feathers. It doesn't make her very happy but she understands that we are Cats.

Other things we catch make her shriek; like snakes and scorpions. *sigh* There is really no pleasing Mommy.

Our mommy would have reacted the same way about the bird. Ferris caught one the other day when he was out in the garden. There was no saving the bird and mommy was upset. We're cats...what do they expect!
